Fabrics and Fibers Projects

Picture
Students may choose to work on any of the fabrics and fibers projects listed below, including sewing basics, needle felting, and digital embroidery. Materials you need should be in the club cabinets. Ask a club leader if you need help locating supplies or equipment.

To get credit for finishing a fabrics and fibers project, add a short video to the club's FlipGrid board for fabrics and fibers projects to share your work. You can access this FlipGrid from the FlipGrid app on a cell phone by typing in the board code: 53fb48. If you need help capturing or sharing your video, ask one of the club leaders to assist you.

Sewing Basics

iNEST is fortunate to have several club leaders/mentors with experience in sewing. Club members can gain experience hand-sewing simple objects like pillows with needles, fabrics, and thread. Members can also make use of sewing machines available in the club to automate these processes. For credit, be sure to share a video of your sewing projects on the club's FlipGrid board for fabrics and fibers projects.

Needle Felting

Did you know that wool fibers can be shaped into objects by poking the wool with a special needle? As the fibers are roughed up, they tighten to form shapes like animals. What object would you like to create through this felting process? For credit, be sure to share a video of your digital felting project on the club's FlipGrid board for fabrics and fibers projects.

Digital Embroidery

The club's digital embroidery machines allow you to apply digital designs to fabrics, such as the school logo to a scarf, or an original design you create to a hat or pair of gloves. What will you design and create? For credit, be sure to share a video of your digital embroidery project on the club's FlipGrid board for fabrics and fibers projects.
