12/5/2017 and 12/12/2017. On 12/12 the ladies in iNEST presented their completed paper coasters. Several guest judges joined the maker club for the coaster competition and listened as each group spoke about their design and chosen theme. Then our guest judges watched the groups as they performed timed trials with marbles. The judges scored the coasters on their structural integrity, the complexity of the components, the creativity, and the length of time it took the marbles to travel the coaster tracks. After all the groups had presented their coasters and gone through their timed trials, the judges' score sheets were collected and tallied while the iNESTers enjoyed an end of semester pizza party. Once the final scores were in, three groups were named winners in the coaster competition. The winning coaster designs were: Brainstorm (1st place), Dynamic Planet (2nd place), and Fireball (3rd place). Congratulations to all the groups! Everyone did an amazing (and difficult) job with their designs. And we'd like to extend a big thank you to our guest judges, students Avelyn Batts and Alisha Nazir and teachers Christy Adley, Ruth Wormald, and Spencer Williams for volunteering their time to help out. This was the last iNEST meeting for this year. We wish everyone a happy winter break and we can't wait until next year's meetings. Visit the blog then to see what's in store as iNEST starts exploring robotics! |
