The iNEST Maker Club wrapped up the 2016-17 academic year yesterday with its final club meeting. Students presented their final make projects as part of a "gallery walk," sharing what they created and learned from the process. Some of the presented projects included: fabricated masks, 3d prints, LittleBits, sewing, Hummingbird robotics, and K'nex robotics. The club welcomed our external evaluator yesterday, Eleanor Hasse, who observed students finishing up their final make projects and presenting. After the gallery walk, students enjoyed a nice carb-fest of pizza and donuts in the media center. Thanks to everyone who participated in iNEST this year. We hope to see all of you and more in the club this coming September!
After missing our club meeting on 4-25 due to floods in the area, iNEST resumed today with students wrapping up their showcase projects that they will present during our final club meeting of the year next week. Dr. Oliver spoke with students today about the club's 3D GameLab learning environment to see if they were interested in continuing to use that tool next year, or if they had recommendations for other ways to document, share, and reflect on their work. Thanks to everyone who provided feedback and good ideas to help us improve the club next fall.
Thanks to Mariam for organizing our final lunch table of the year, held during the school's lunch break on Monday, May 1st. Club members helped their classmates use low-cost materials (paint chips) to create hand-crafted earrings and necklaces. This was by far our most popular lunch table of the year, and will hopefully interest more girls in participating in iNEST next fall!
On Saturday, April 22nd, Mrs. Vick and Mrs. Dupree took a group of iNEST club members to the Burlington mini-maker fair--our spring field trip opportunity. After lunch at Chick-fil-a, the girls headed to the Burlington mall to see their fellow makers in action. Some highlights included seeing professional masks of the type the girls have been making in our club, seeing a really cool Sphero course made out of cardboard (yes, we need to make one of these!), and trying our hand at soldering.
